TL;DR: Zendesk Sell is a capable, well-known sales CRM with solid click-to-dial and mobile features, but Zendesk itself has announced it is retiring the product on August 31, 2027, and is actively steering its own customers toward a competitor, Pipedrive. Pixelwand is a CRM built for the long haul, with WhatsApp, calling, Slack, and lead-ad channels natively wired into the pipeline instead of bolted on through add-ons and third-party connectors. If you are choosing a CRM in 2026, betting on a product its own maker is winding down is a real risk worth avoiding.
Zendesk Sell is being sunset, not just criticized
This is not a matter of opinion. In a support announcement, Zendesk stated it made the decision to retire Zendesk Sell and the Sell mobile app on August 31, 2027, and that it will no longer provide a sales CRM solution after that date. To soften the blow, Zendesk partnered with Pipedrive, a separate, competing CRM vendor, to build migration tooling for Sell customers moving off the platform. Zendesk has confirmed that once the retirement date passes (or a subscription ends, whichever comes first) Sell data will be permanently deleted.
That means any team signing a new Zendesk Sell contract today is signing up for a CRM with a hard expiration date already on the calendar, and a forced migration project sometime before then. Coverage of the announcement described it as Zendesk "exiting the sales CRM business" entirely, a strategic pivot toward its core customer service products rather than a temporary pause. Whatever you build in Sell today (pipelines, custom fields, automation rules, historical deal data) is something you will eventually have to rebuild somewhere else, on someone else's timeline.
Where Zendesk Sell still holds up
To be fair, Zendesk Sell isn't a bad product on its own technical merits. Its plans include built-in click-to-dial and call recording starting from the entry-level Team tier, a fully featured mobile app, and prebuilt sales reporting and forecasting on higher plans. If your only requirement is basic pipeline and calling functionality and you are fine with a two-year runway, Sell can still do the job until the lights go out.
Messaging and lead capture: native vs. bolted-on
The bigger everyday gap shows up in how each product handles the channels sales teams actually live in now. Pixelwand unifies leads and deals from calls, WhatsApp, web forms, and email into one pipeline automatically, with native two-way WhatsApp Business API messaging attached directly to the lead or deal record, not a separate app you have to configure.
Zendesk Sell's WhatsApp support runs through its Sunshine Conversations app, and Zendesk's own help documentation warns that the app should only be used for that purpose and, once configured, should not be changed. Setting it up requires Meta Business verification and creates a special service-user account that owns WhatsApp-created leads by default and cannot be deleted. It works, but it is clearly an add-on grafted onto the platform rather than a native part of the deal record.
Team collaboration tells a similar story. Zendesk's own community forum confirms there is no native Slack integration for Sell, a gap customers have been requesting a fix for since at least 2021. Facebook and Instagram lead ads face the same issue: connecting them to Sell means routing through Zapier, Make, or LeadsBridge rather than a built-in sync. Pixelwand handles both natively: Slack notifications for deal, task, and pipeline activity, and direct Facebook/Instagram lead ad syncing straight into the CRM.

Pricing: flat-rate vs. a four-tier ladder
Zendesk Sell is sold across four tiers, roughly $19 (Team), $55 (Growth), $115 (Professional), and $169 (Enterprise) per user per month on annual billing, and features are gated by tier rather than bundled in from the start. Texting through Sell Voice, for example, is only available on the two highest-priced plans, so a team on Team or Growth pricing can call but can't text from the same number without upgrading. Pixelwand uses simple, flat-rate per-seat pricing, with no separate hubs, no contact-count tax, and no automation paywall to climb through as your team grows.
Why teams choose Pixelwand over Zendesk Sell
Pixelwand was built around the channels sales teams actually use today. Native calling through Twilio (bring-your-own-carrier) or Exotel for the Indian market puts click-to-call directly on the lead or deal record, and two-way WhatsApp Business API messaging lives on that same record rather than in a separate configured app. Gmail and Outlook sync auto-logs email threads and calendar events, Google Calendar sync adds meeting-prep summaries, and a native Slack integration pushes deal, task, and pipeline alerts to wherever the team is already talking. Facebook and Instagram lead ads sync straight into the pipeline. Custom fields, custom statuses, assignment rules, and saved views let teams shape the CRM to their process without needing an admin console tour or an add-on purchase, and it all sits behind one flat per-seat price. For a team that wants a CRM they won't have to explain to leadership is being discontinued in eighteen months, that combination matters.
